Is Counseling Worth It? Should I Try Therapy?
Many people ask us (professionally and personally):
“Should I try counseling? Is it worth it? Will it actually help?”
As the world warms to the idea of therapy and self-reflection alongside a trusted ally, it also requires investment -- money, time, and energy. So… is it worth it?
This is a fair question; no one likes wasting money. If you have ever had to take your car to a repair shop, you understand the fear of not wanting to be scammed or deceived into over paying. When we do find a trustworthy mechanic (and one that is even moderately priced), we invest what is needed to get our cars repaired and back on the road. For the average American, a car repair ranges between $400-$1000.
In counseling, we are lifting up the hood on something even more valuable than our cars. We are investing in our souls, our marriages, our wellbeing, our families. — the things that matter most in life. So when someone asks genuinely, “Is counseling worth it?” we say “It is always worth trying.”
